The MYRRHA project at SCK•CEN aims at designing and constructing a multi-purpose nuclear installation that assembles a proton accelerator, a target, where spallation neutrons are generated and a reactor. The MYRRHA reactor has a pool-type configuration and is cooled by liquid Lead Bismuth Eutectic (LBE) metal; both features require the validation of the simulation codes used to predict the thermal-hydraulic behavior of the coolant. For this purpose, a mock-up scaled facility of the MYRRHA primary system, named E-SCAPE, has been built at SCK•CEN to provide experimental data in support of the validation process. The experimental data cover typical steady-state and transient states of the reactor and are used to validate CFD codes, system thermal-hydraulic (STH) codes and coupled CFD-STH codes. In particular, a tool which couples the STH code RELAP5-3D and the CFD code ANSYS Fluent has been developed at SCK•CEN in order to improve the simulation capability of STH codes, given the possible influence of 3-D phenomena in the reactor pool regions on operation and safety.

In the framework of the validation process of the coupled RELAP5-3D/ANSYS Fluent tool, the objective of this work is carrying out post-test analyses on the following cases:

1) forced circulation in hot conditions

2) natural circulation

3) loss of forced flow, starting from two different power levels

RELAP5-3D and ANSYS Fluent models of the E-SCAPE facility are already available and they have been coupled for the pre-test simulations. However, additional improvement of the Fluent model is necessary for the comparison analysis with the experimental data.
