The objective of this topic is to perform numerical CFD calculations in order to design a cold trap for LBE systems capable of capturing PbO precipitates. To achieve this, the following steps need to be undertaken:
- Calculate the hydraulic charateristics of the proposed cold trap design
- Taking into account external cooling of the cold trap, the temperature profile of the LBE needs to be calculated in function of LBE inlet conditions
- Based on the requirements given, the design of the cold trap should be adapted to reach the desired temperature profiles
The conclusions of this study will directly be implemented in a design for a cold trap device in the LBE loops at SCK•CEN.
